1. Scope and principles
1.1 A Child is anyone under 18. We aim to protect every Child from abuse, exploitation, neglect, harassment and avoidable harm and to act in the Child’s best interests without discrimination.
1.2 This policy applies to staff, guides, contractors, Suppliers, Travellers and visitors interacting with Children on a Trip or through Creeks Tours.
2. Booking and consent
2.1 A parent or verified legal guardian must book for a Child, provide accurate age and needs, sign required consents, and supply border or custody documents. We may ask for evidence of authority, especially where surnames differ or a Child travels without both parents.
2.2 The responsible adult must supervise the Child throughout unless a specific supervised programme is confirmed. Staff must not be left alone with a Child in a private or isolated setting except where unavoidable for immediate safety and, where practicable, with another adult present.
3. Ages, pricing and activities
3.1 Children are generally priced at 75% of the adult rate, subject to park fees and Supplier age rules. The Website’s automatic estimate is provisional, not a universal rule. The Quote must record age at travel, room arrangement, Supplier tariff, park/air fare and the final child price.
3.2 General Website trip ages do not override activity rules. Gorilla tracking in Uganda and Rwanda is generally 15+. Chimp tracking, balloons, diving, rafting, hiking, boats and vehicle seating have varying minimum ages, sizes, swimming ability, certification and adult-accompaniment rules. Staff must obtain and communicate the current Supplier rule before taking payment.
3.3 A guide may refuse or stop a Child’s participation where the Child does not meet a rule or conditions make participation unsafe. No pricing promise guarantees eligibility.
4. Safeguarding conduct
4.1 Personnel must use respectful language and appropriate contact; avoid favouritism and sexualised, humiliating or threatening conduct; never exchange private sexual or exploitative messages; never buy sexual services; and never possess, create or share child sexual abuse material.
4.2 Do not photograph or identify a Child without the responsible adult’s permission and, where age-appropriate, the Child’s assent. Never publish a Child’s precise location, medical details or other information creating a foreseeable risk.
4.3 Community visits must protect local Children’s dignity. Do not encourage gifts, direct cash, intrusive photography or unsupervised contact. Donations must use an approved, transparent channel.
5. Reporting and response
5.1 Report an immediate danger to local emergency or police services and the guide. Report any safeguarding concern promptly to [Safeguarding lead name and 24-hour contact] or info@creekstours.com / +254 717 348 064.
5.2 We will prioritise safety, record only necessary information, restrict access, avoid promising secrecy, preserve evidence, notify appropriate authorities and the parent/guardian where safe and lawful, and protect a good-faith reporter from retaliation.
5.3 Staff must not investigate alleged criminal conduct beyond securing immediate safety and recording facts. The safeguarding lead decides referral with qualified local advice.
